Periodontal Treatments and Procedures
Periodontology is a field of dentistry that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal diseases, more commonly known as gum disease. To begin, we will take an examination of your dental and medical history to find any condition that may affect your periodontal treatment. These conditions include heart disease, diabetes, and pregnancy.
From there, we will examine your gums for any sign of disease. Gingivitis is a very common form of periodontal disease, but it is easily reversible when caught early. Our examination will check to see if you have any gum line recession, how your teeth fit together when you bite, and whether any of your teeth are loose. Then we will undergo further examination which can include checking if you have any periodontal pockets or X-rays to determine the health of your bones located below your gum line.
Left unchecked, gingivitis can advance to a more severe stage called periodontitis, which can lead to the breakdown and destruction of the support systems surrounding your teeth. When this occurs, a tooth might have to be removed as a result, so getting your gums and teeth checked often is crucial. At Cedar View Dental, we treat gum infection seriously and work to give your gums the treatment it needs to be healthy.
